The Hebridean Brewery Technical Details

The brewery centres around the mash tun and wort copper, these were originally a pilot plant for a large regional brewer with fermentation vessels and hot liquor tank produced by Shobwood Engineering of Burton on Trent.

The wort copper is of a fountain design with an internal steam coil and a whirlpool set up.

Cold liquor tank is ex Ash Vine brewery of Somerset.

The plant is steam powered and this is provided by a Fulton 30e steam boiler, oversized to allow for expansion at a later date.

All malt used in the brewery is whole grain and is milled on site by a Bamford grist mill.

The choice of steam power was easy it provides a less aggressive heat than other methods and produces a more consistent product.

All the temperature monitoring and process control is located on a centralised panel designed and installed by Martin Bowden an electrical engineer and long time friend.

The bottling plant is made up of a CW250 twin head bottle filling machine, supplied by Advanced Bottling UK ltd with the beer conditioning and chilling tanks converted from insulated 5 barrel cellar tanks converted by Hebridean Engineering and Specialist Welding on Island.

All in all this goes to make up one of the best equipped breweries of its size in the country producing quality full mash real ales for your enjoyment.
