Thank
you for stopping by The Hebridean Brewery web site. The only brewery
and legal alcohol producer
in the Outer Hebrides offering locally produced cask conditioned real
ales.
Having
spent many holidays during his childhood on his Grandfather's croft at Aird
Tong, and enjoying numerous visits to the islands throughout his life, the
proprietor of Hebridean Brewing Company, Andrew Murdo Ribbens, had dreamed
of one day settling in Stornoway.
Following
a summer spent watching the British Lions tour to South Africa with some rugby
friends whilst sampling the delights of the hostelries on Lewis, it occurred
to Andy that real ale produced locally would add to the diversity of beers
available on the Island - to this end the idea of The Hebridean Brewing
Company was
born.
The
opportunity arose to fulfill his dreams when the pharmaceutical company, where
he worked, was relocated. Andy opted to take redundancy rather than move with
the company. He then embarked upon a period of study and research into the brewery
business. With the experience he gained at two major independent breweries,
(Freeminer Brewery in the Forest of Dean and Flagship Brewery in Kent) he then started
the Hebridean Brewing Company.
